Support the Census Count in Your Area: Quick Programming Ideas (LIVE webinar)

Support the Census Count in Your Area: Quick Programming Ideas

Description:

**This is a free webinar, open to all library staff working in Ohio.**

The Census comes but once a decade and this year's count presents a great opportunity for libraries to connect with the communities they serve. For the first time, a vast majority of households will be encouraged to complete their Census forms online rather than in a paper format. Both ALA and the State Library of Ohio are curating information and providing resources to help library staff get the word out, answer users' questions, and encourage participation. If you haven't started planning, it's not too late. Plan to join us for this free webinar with members of the Ohio Library 2020 Census Committee to review the available materials and get ideas to help your community complete the count!

Presenter Background

Erin Kelsey is a library consultant at the State Library of Ohio.  She travels around Ohio assisting public libraries with their strategic plans.  She also facilitates continuing education and leadership programs for libraries and library staff.  She has worked in a variety of public libraries for over 10 years in every position from circulation assistant to department manager. Libraries are so important to every community and provide crucial services.   Erin feels passionate about the impact they have and how they are constantly evolving to provide an open and welcome space for everyone. She feels lucky to be able to travel around Ohio and learn about the important work libraries are doing in every corner of the state.

Cindy has worked for the State Library of Ohio since December of 2014. In December of 2015, she was promoted to LSTA Coordinator / Library Consultant within the Library Programs and Development Department. Prior to joining the State Library, Cindy worked for eight years at Worthington Public Libraries as a Circulation Assistant. Cindy received her Master of Library and Information Science degree from Kent State University School of Library and Information Science in 2013 and completed her Cumulative Experience (practicum) within the Government Documents Collection of the State Library of Ohio.  She graduated cum laude from Otterbein University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature in 2008. Cindy has also co-published several articles and a book chapter on topics including Customer Orientation and Soft Skills. She participated in the 2015 ILEAD USA Ohio cohort and was the Instructor Corp Coordinator for the 2017 and 2019 ILEAD USA Ohio cohort.

Annie Christensen is an Adult Services Librarian for Worthington Libraries. She earned her MLIS from the University of Washington in 2016 and has worked in libraries of many types including special collections and archives, health sciences, academic, and public. She's currently wrangling all of the tax forms, annoying her co-workers with constant updates about those same tax forms, prepping for a Holi program, and sharing information with everyone she can about the census.

Katie Mihaly works as the Circulation and Outreach Specialist at Jerome Library of Bowling Green State University. She has worked at the circulation desks of three university libraries over the course of fourteen years and holds a MLIS degree from Wayne State University. She is excited to help ensure college students successfully complete their first census.
